This post made me both happy for the fun new beginnings that seem to lie ahead for both of you (and the great new "crash-pad" on the East Coast) and sad for the void that comes when good friends move far away. Cheers for Face Time, Skype and all the other elements of modern technology that bridge the gap that distance can bring.

Having a baby seems to have put us in an "accumulation" phase leaving us no choice but to consider upsizing. Reading about downsizing has renewed my motivation to get rid of the unnecessary items that have taken control of our lives and hang tight for as long as possible. Thanks for the boost!!

Ahh, the best advice, because I love receiving things from that list!

For bigger gifts to those close to you, I also think that experiences can be great - a weekend trip, or maybe a class or lesson (cooking, dancing, etc). Memories like that don't take up space in the closet! <3

Definitely - all industries should be prepared for this exciting market - the baby boomers! Though in my opinion, everyone should be living in smaller spaces and with less stuff, no matter what your age. It's better for the planet.

Great stuff! I love refreshing my "freebie" furniture like that. With things like dresser drawers, sometimes all it takes is a coat of paint and bright or clever wrapping paper to line the drawers. So fun - it's like you have a brand new piece of furniture that is exactly what you wanted, for under $10!

What a great story - that service will make the transition so much easier!

It's a growing market, especially as our population ages and the economy rebounds. Once people will be able to sell their houses again, retirement communities will be even more appealing.
